Continued print server trouble

So I had someone try to remotely print to my cups server, and it
registered in access_log, but nothing was added to page_log, and all
that was printed was "$$".  No messages in error_log.  What's wrong?
(It works for me, and they are also on Ubuntu (but Dapper, I'm Edgy, the
 server is Dapper.)
