Dist-upgraded from Dapper to Edgy: disaster

Hi, I dist-upgraded today with the GUI update-manager.
After two hours, I reboot. I choose ubuntu 2.6.17-etc.
I see the new boot splash screen. But after a second I see the busy
console with this error:

"cannot found tty"

and the prompt as (initramfs)

how can I repair this?
