I would very much advise against it... see the "Restore Dapper after
Edgy" thread.
Depending upon the packages/software that you are looking to install,
you might be better off getting the package source and/or RPM's and
installing instead. As an example: I run OpenOffice 2.0.4 just fine in
Dapper using the code from the OOo site; however when I installed from
the Edgy repository it screwed up my system. Note: I don't blame Ubuntu
for this as their version is specifically tuned for Edgy -- instead just
giving you a heads up.
