'Bell' in Gnome Terminal ?

Yes, I have that checked.  Still it doesn't beep.   I know the 'other
side' is okay because it beeps in PuTTY just fine.  Another problem I
have with Gnome Terminal in CenterICQ is that it displays command or
control characters in the wrong places when trying to type.  Have
already tried changing font encoding and such, but to no avail.

I noticed PuTTY is available for Ubuntu as well in the repositories so
will give that one a try.
