enable large file support for apache 2.0.x?

HI folks
i am running a ubuntu drapper server
and having apache 2.0.55
i want to have large file support (file > 2G) on the machine so some
users can download those files directly from the browser
but after several failure and some research i realized that only
apache 2.2 has large file support
so is there anyway i enable large file support on 2.0 or upgrade to
2.2 ( apt-get wont upgrade it to 2.2)?
