firefox on two displays

I have a dual-head system, with a desktop on each of two displays.

If I open Firefox 1.5 on one display, any attempt to open another
Firefox window on the other display results in the message "Firefox is
already running, but is not responding". The open Firefox window is,
however, working fine.

The sequence to get the message is very simple and absolutely
repeatable:

- start firefox on one display (it starts, works fine)
- attempt to start firefox on other display (get message)
- close dialogue box, close first firefox
- now firefox will start on other display.

Web mentions of this message suggest it is a profile conflict or a
locked profile. While those should not be the causes in this case, it
does seem to be related to profiles. If I start with -ProfileManager and
create/select a different profile, firefox starts up on the second
display just fine. However, I obviously don't have all my settings.

I can't see any reason why firefox would care what display it was on.

Regards, K.
