enabling extra repositories

Hello,

I'm new to ubuntu and linux planform.
I had read from an article say that i must 'enabling extra repositories' if
i can not find what i need.
In the article, it asked me to tick all the thing in 'binary'. My question
is, why must binary, and not source?
