Errr... I disagree. LVM can autodetect volumes automatically, so you
don't need to set up anything. Just tell LVM to scan the disks and it
fill eventually find up all the volumes that are present in the
system.
With respect to slowing down operations, I think the impact is so
small, and the advantages so much, that it makes sense most of the
times to use LVM.
