A shot in the dark!

Before you give up on the USB connection; I have
a digital that has different USB modes, it can present itself
to the computer as different USB devivces. I use
it in mass storage mode, were it presents itself
as a mass storage device (aka disk/usbstick/memorycard(reader)).

Check your camcorder for this possibility.
