I have never done an XP dual boot. I seem to remember that
"rootnoverify" is often in the stanza (e.g.):
grub> rootnoverify (hd0,0)
grub> makeactive
grub> chainloader +1
grub> boot
For you of course it would be (hd1,0) apparently.
