I think the problem may well be with piptools, if either klipsi or
kpsion are installed the problem occurs and both are dependent on plptools.
It causes an effect similar to the 'enter' key being jammed.  Easily 
seen if you open a terminal and type in a command like 'free' a few 
times eventually the prompt just scrolls up the screen enedlessly.
The machine I tried it on has a USB kybd.
