HP Deskjet 3420 and Tascam

Hello, this is my first post here. I'm a beginner in Ubuntu, and
unfortunately I couldn't leave Windows because of two problems.

The first, as described here:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/23099

Some HP printers (including mine, Deskjet 3420) simply don't use the
black cartridges. When there is some black text, it prints it with the
colour cartridges, and that's really expensive. Seems like this
problem still happens in the beta for 6.10 version, Edgy Eft. Anyone
have any ideas?

The second, maybe easier. As I described here:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=258053&highlight=tascam

I use a Tascam US-122 connected via USB as my audio interface. With
some packages installed, it works. But there's this annoying problem
that remains, a boring and loud buzzing that comes out anytime I pause
or stop a song, and lasts for some seconds. I hear music all the time,
and that's part of my work, so I it makes Ubuntu impossible for me.

Hope anyone can help.
Thanks!
Felipe
