1. Grub cannot yet be used with the GRP partitioning used by Apple,
so install LILO instead -- and yes, install it to /dev/sda3 in order
to avoid annoying duplicate icons in rEFIt.
2. Add the boot option "lpj=8000000" (eight million) in
/etc/lilo.conf; you can also use this option (with the F6 switch)
to avoid the panics using the liveCD.
3. The special Apple keys F1, F2,... don't work without extra
effort, some keys like numlock (F6) will probably never work. There
are reports of the camera working, microphone is another story.
The ath0 wireless interface is very difficult to bring up, caused
by the new madwifi-ng drivers (in restricted modules), you may have
try several times (cycling "sudo ifup/ifdown ath0" commands).
FWIW, I've given up on the direct install of Ubuntu Linux, and have
instead installed it (Dapper) in a Parallels VM -- very happy with it.
See my website www.xs4all.nl/~hajk for notes on installing Ubuntu Dapper
directly to the HD; removing the Ubuntu partition; and installing
in a Parallels VM.
