Virtual Serial Port for interface to Palm TX

I run Kubuntu (just switched over from Ubuntu but the question still applies)
Dapper, and I have a Palm TX PDA to carry around with me.
Synchronising the TX to the PC has long been a problem - it works fairly well
from its cradle under gpilot/Evolution once I got it going, but I dislike
Evolution. That is one reason for switching to KDE, because I like Kontact
much more. BUT the Palm doesn't seem to like the kpilot interface. It will
work now and then but it's very temperamental and I can't fathom what
particular conditions apply when it does deign to work.
So, I want to sync using Bluetooth. I can exchange files quite happily with
Bluetooth, but I can't get it to sync. I need a Virtual Serial Port to get
this going, and no amount of Googling has got me particularly close to
achieving one. I've tried using sdptool browse to get a channel number, and
the Palm makes a nice bleeping noise but either there is no output from
sdptool, or theres a timed out message. Certainly no diagnostics.
So, can anybody tell me how I should set about setting up a Virtual Serial
Port that I can use, preferably in plain Englsih please!
