Help on broken packages sought

Absolutely newbie here. Earlier today I botched an attempt to install
"WSJT" as a result I ended up with two broken packages:
libgcc1 and libstdc++6 if I try to mark them for reinstall or removal,
package manager wants to remove most of the system!
Any advice? Can I recover or will I have to reinstall the whole system?
