Not exactly "static" configuration ( I used to use static config here but
I now have a router that does MAC matching ) .

I have all IPs matched to a particular interface MAC address, which does
the same thing effectively, and NM works with that. This means that my
laptop is "multihomed" with one address for eth0 and another for eth1
( the wireless card), so I have two names for the laptop to make life
easier - "name" for eth0  and "wifiname"  for eth1, for example.

Thus, for instance, scp filename wifiname:  works when connected by
wireless, and scp filename name:  works when wired .
