scotth at momo:~$ apt-cache policy linux-k7
linux-k7:
  Installed: 2.6.15.25
  Candidate: 2.6.15.25
  Version table:

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

scotth at momo:~$ grep processor /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
processor : 1

I believe you'll be wanting to install linux-686 and reboot.
You are currently running the 386 kernel and that is built
with only uniprocessor support. The 686 kernel has smp
support.
