Ubuntu's debmirror is a pain

It is nearly impossibble to use Ubuntu's version of debmirror in my
situation. I was trying to download a partial mirror from ftp.sun.ac.za
(our local ftp-mirror) and the Ubuntu debmirror would not do it after
complaining about a lot of md5sums not being correct and problems with
Release-files.
With the same configuration I could download an ubuntu mirror using a
Debian Testing machine - this time with about no complaints.
I have also tried debpartial-mirror on the Ubuntu machine and I could
not get it do do anything. There is also nearly zero documentation on
debpartial-mirror.
There must be an easier way to get a partial ubuntu mirror...
Regards
Johann
