CTL problem

Hi,
 
I'm new to the list, so please excuse dumb questions, etc.
 
I've installed 6.10 (English interface), which is beautiful and a real marvel. BUT, I
have a problem with Hebrew & Arabic. Even though I have intalled the Hebrew & Arabic
Language packs, I cannot write Hebrew or Arabic. In Open Office, Tools/Language
Settings/Languages, the CTL (Complex Text Layout box is 'gray' - i.e. not enabled,
and nothing I do changes this.
 
Any ideas? Any instant solutions to this problem?
