"Open with" settings for Places/Recent Documents

If I double click on a .ods file in Nautilus it correctly opens it using 
OO Spreadsheet.

If I click on the same file in the Places/Recent Documents menu I get

Could not open recently used document 
"file:///home/account/docs/utilities.ods"

Details: Could not find a suitable application.

Where are the settings for this menu and why are they different to those 
in Nautilus?
