Evolution and maildir mailboxes

Hi.  I am new to the list but can't read the Code of Conduct because the
URL given in my welcome message times out, so I hope I'm not doing
anything wrong in this post.

I am trying to setup Evolution in Ubuntu Edgy and have a maildir mailbox
in $HOME/Maildir.  However I can select maildir mailbox in the setup
assistant, but I can't select just the directory because the window that
pops up when I click the path button will only select files.  Is there a
special way I need to setup Evolution to handle a maildir mailbox?  Do I
have to convert my local mailbox in order to use Evolution with it?  I
have been a Mutt user up until now and would like to try out Evolution.
Balsa worked for me but wouldn't let me GPG sign my messages.  It gave
me an error about not finding a key, but I definitely have one.  Any
help on this is greatly appreciated.
