I assume you are using RealVNC on the XP box - if so, I don't know, since I
have only used vnc and tightvnc on Linux machines. There seems to be
pretty thorough documentation for the Windows version on

Are you using any firewalling on the Linux box? I assume you have the vino
server running... System-Preferences- Remote Desktop in Gnome.
