Upgrade form Dapper to Edgy Eft

Hi

I've upgraded my workstation from Dapper to Edgy Eft. Part way through the
upgrade using 'gksu "update-manager -c" ' the upgrade halted and asked me to
use Synaptic to repair the damage. This doesn't work either. Output of
some error messages is.....

"there are 70 broken packages on your system!" Use the broken filter
to locate them. Done that... and it says..

"E: /var/cache/apt/archives/x11-common_1%3a7.1.1ubuntu6_i386.deb:
trying to overwrite `/usr/X11R6/bin', which is also in package
iglooftp"

/usr/X11R6/bin is where IglooFTP normally goes. There seems to be something
about a link between /usr/X11R6/bin and something else. Tried to remove the
IglooFTP applicaion and directory but the upgrade refuses to complete.
Anyone have any ideas how to get round this ? Would be nice to have a
working apt-get or gksu or Synaptic system and a workstation that will
accept updates.
