Yep, what you need is the alternative install disc image. The direct
path to the .iso is
http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/releases.ubuntu.com/edgy/ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso

or the torrent:
http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/releases.ubuntu.com/edgy/ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso.torrent
if you prefer

When you boot off the disc, choose the "install in text mode" option,
and you're laughing.
