It depends on the CPU-number. i386 always works. You may use the 64-bit
(AMD64) if your CPU supports EM64T (which is Intels terminology for
AMD-64.) It can unfortunately be hard to find the information at intels
site.

The following support EM64T: T7200, T7400, T7600, T5500, T5600
It may be that all Core 2 Duo supports EM64T, but I am not sure.
