Grateful thanks for showing how it's done, not just the quick fix. :-)

With that working, I put it into .myXdefaults, then used your xrdb -load
after starting 2 xterms, but before the other 2 on the right of the screen.
That way, I can still use the left xterms for elements of $PATH, grep
output, gcc errors, etc.

It proved necessary to do the "xrdb -load" in a script run _in_ the first
right-hand xterm, otherwise the new resource setting leaked back to the
xterms created prior to the load.

With this and the firefox changes, the UI is much friendlier.
