Software doesn't care either. :)

With the best Gnu/Linux applications being so equally divided between 
Gnome and KDE, you're going to end up using applications that use either 
  environment.   Fortunately Ubuntu supports this brilliantly, with 
Gnome and KDE apps conveniently in the same repositories.
