No sound recording

Thank you for your help but I just discovered very strange thing
when I just put or point the mouse on any MP3 file I am listening to the
file as I am intending to hear it through any music player but when I
try to open it by totem or
rthythbox ... I got the error message that the program could not play
the MP3 file
