Laptop, CPU scaling, and NVidia

I tracked my CPU scaling problem down to something to do with the
NVidia-glx drivers (and related kernel additions). Upon a fresh install
of Edgy, CPU scaling works perfectly. After doing the nvidia-glx enable
(and rebooting) the message "You processor does not support CPU scaling"
comes up and the Scaling applette shows the proccessor running at 100%
of the speed it can run.
Anyone know how to begin troubleshooting this, or is it a bug? Dapper
never displayed this problem.
