Sporadic X error: 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'

Hi all,

Since upgrading to Edgy, I am sporadically seeing the following X
error when I open vlc or another media player:

X Error of failed request:  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request:  141 (XVideo)
  Minor opcode of failed request:  19 ()
  Serial number of failed request:  82
  Current serial number in output stream:  83

Only apparent remedy is to reboot X.

My system has an Intel 915 graphic chipset which I am running at
1280x800 resolution.

but no indication how to solve the problem.
