scripting question

First create a tny script that has the same problem. It should basically
consist of the assignment to TEMP and the echo line.

> > echo "^[E
> > " > $TEMP

Those are odd characters between the quotation marks. What happens if
you change that to "blah"?

Can you post or provide a link to the whole script so that we can play
with it? Sanitise it if necessary, just make sure that the sanitised
version has the same problem :-)
