cant install Network manager

Hi folks
i am running edgy on a Dell Inspiron 6000 which has PRO/Wireless
2915ABG Network Connection
i am trying to install the network manager via
application>add/remove>search and check "network manager"
but it gives me an error message say: "network manager can not be
install because either the hardware requires special features or the
vendor decided not to support your computer type"

i did a search on the ubuntu forum but didn't find the similar problem
or did i just missed the threat

any comments?
