Forgot to mention: I'd go with .txt files for storing the data. Your
application seems to just be quite simple, and shouldn't need a massive
database daemon to be running.

I have actually created a Memos script in the past entirely in BASH. I think
I managed to get 'Number of notes: n' in my Bash shell prompt too. I'll see
if I can dig it out when I get home in a few hours - it might be useful for
you to hack on. :-D
