Could it be that you have installed the restricted fglrx packages for ATI 
cards?

The latest fglrx seems to be broken. All openGL applications don't run 
anymore.
If you start OpenOffice.org in a gnome-terminal you will see messages like 
this:
[fglrx] API ERROR: could not register entrypoint for SelectTextureSGIS
[fglrx] API ERROR: could not register entrypoint for 
SelectTextureTransformSGIS
[fglrx] API ERROR: could not register entrypoint for 
ClientActiveVertexStreamATI
[fglrx] API ERROR: could not register entrypoint for VertexBlendEnviATI
