Hi all,

following the “house rules” definately makes sence, provided there are good
house rules available :-) In my opinion, less and less people take notice of
house rules or even follow them. In some newsgroups / mailinglists a notice is
posted weekly or so to show these rules. If they do it's often “old timers”
who experienced the low-bandwith dial-up early days of the Web.

The good thing is that this topic is discussed frequently, especially when
threads are long and people simply refuse to remove old parts from the
discussion in their posts (which seems to happen more often when new replies
are at the top).

In terms of netiquette I can highly recommend [1]. I frequently point my
students in the direction also :-) In terms of “long threads” and such, a
buddy recently pointed me to [2] which was a really interesting read.

Just my five cents,

  Bas
