The Intel chips do support acceleration features/3D, however, XGL does 
not yet support hardware acceleration with the Intel chips.  I have an 
i915 video chip.  The last time I tried XGL, it was very slow/CPU 
intensive because of this.  It has been a couple of months, though, so 
the situation may have changed...  It is worth noting that I am on an 
Ultralight laptop with a processor set up for battery life, and not 
processing power.
