[more newbie ???] howto list installed programs on menus?

a long time ago, yes. but since you suggested it, i went looking 
again... there, at the bottom of a
applications>Debian>Apps>Viewers[!] well, i found ImageMagick! hoo ha!

hadn't seen 'Viewers' listed before this morning, nor would i have 
thought to look there. and the path reminds me quite strongly of the gag 
in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy about the plans for the by-pass 
being 'on display' in the planning dept, behind a door marked Beware of 
the Leopard.
