Machine not auto powering off at shutdown

I have recently installed Ubuntu on a PC where I had to use the "acpi=off"
paramter at boot to enable the detection of the particular network card on
the motherboard (ASUS P5V800).
This now means that when I do a "shutdown -h now" the machine does not
auto power off and hangs.
Is there any way I can re-enable the auto power off on this machine?
