tdfsb dies blaming glutinit failure

TDFSB (3-D file system browser) fails with the error:

freeglut  ERROR:  Function <glutStrokeCharacter> called without first
calling 'glutInit'.

I have an nVidia graphics card with 3-D set up and working for other
programs.
Does anyone have any pointers to getting this eye candy working?  I'd
really like to impress a couple of folks with it.  They already are
pretty impressed with 3D desktop switching.
