Grub boot menu screen appears too large?

I have 3 options in my Grub screen. Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery and Windows.
Still the box/frame around those is very big, with the final text about
editing options and starting a command prompt at the bottom of the
screen.

A lot of the graphical bootsplash images for Ubuntu have the logo or
other stuff near the bottom, so the text is displayed on top of that,
making it hard to read and just not looking very nice.

Why would the menu be so large? I tried some options, 'viewport'
especially which is supposed to restrict the area to what you select
(say: viewport 2 3 77 15) but it doesn't work. No matter what I specify
for viewport, the display remains the same. All the other options work
fine, such as those for color, shading and all.

Any chance of making the boot menu box smaller? As a workaround I
suppose I could change the boot graphic to move logos and stuff to be in
the middle, but I'd much rather tidy up the menu size.

Cheers,
Chanchao
