DNS via Linksys ADSL2MUE modem not working properly

Can you do:
cat /etc/nsswitch.conf
and paste the result of that here
then do the same with
/etc/resolv.conf (hide the IPs that you don't want shown)
lastly, make sure that your MTU value for the card that's connected to
the DSL line is 1492 or so (some Linksys had problems with MTU's
higher than that):
ifconfig
And look for MTU:....
If it says 1500, which is the default, you might want to lower that
value and try again.
Now, I can't tell you what's best because I don't know how your
configuration is. But, assuming that Linksys connects to your ISP via
DSL and you connect to the Linksys via eth0, then in the Linksys make
sure that the MTU setting is 1492 and do the same thing on your eth0
net interface.

You might want to google how to set your MTU settings with debian
/etc/network/interfaces file. (or perhaps man interfaces).
