Is acpi needed for Desktop computers?

Ahh, unfortunately, it does not. When, I shutdown my computer, it
cycles though the shutdown sequence. Then, I hear a click inside the
box. The monitor goes off but there still power to the fans, CDROMs,
etc. I could still hear the fan running.

Any help?
