suspend/hibernate

so, an update:

-tried suspend2, but I had kernel panics on suspend.  I suspect a swap
problem but am not yet sure.  

- went back to suspend-1 & a vanilla Ubuntu kernel.  Suspend works fine with
hibernate script but I get a crash on resume due to the dual-core -- I
forgot to note down the error, something about "CPU #1".  Has anyone got
suspend working with a dual-core computer?  This new computer is so fast I'm
not particularly bothered about the time saved by suspend2's compression --
but I *do* want this thing to work...
