Yes it does.  Makes no difference running with sudo or not.  (and
besides, always running something with sudo when not needed isn't
convenient)

I did install all the fte stuff, including the xterm one.  The
standalone X version that opens up a separate window is the only one
that works flawless.  No character issues and no crashes.

Overall I don't think this package is very supported by Ubuntu so I will
probably look for something else.  Guess there's always pico. :)
