Why? Typically to quickly inspect the content of some
configuration or source file when navigating around a
complex file hierarchy (such as a source tree or somesuch)
using Nautilus, and in context where I am primarily
familiarizing myself with the subject - as opposed to
actually working on it - which happens to be something
I do a lot. And the slider makes it much quicker to
browse through a large text or source file than to do the
same via keyboard.
