Two device drivers for only one sound card [SOLVED]

Matt and Chris,

Thank you. Both of you were on the money with what is going on and how 
to get my microphone working.

I'm essentially ignoring the driver marked OSS, and only using the one 
marked ALSA. Within Gnome Volume Control, there is a tab called 
"Capture", where the microphone icon under the slider was marked with a 
red X. By clicking the icon, the red X is removed, and I have been able 
to get full microphone functionality.
