Well, yeah, but I doubt the screen is going to get cracked from regular
biking movement (or even a slight tumble, based on my previous experience). 
I would suspect (but don't really have the spare hardware to test) that any
collision with a flat surface (eg the road) that will reliably crack the
screen, when the laptop is closed, will probably do some pretty unpleasant
damage to other important bits of the laptop.  A collision with something
pointy (say a tree branch) at an unfortunate angle might crack the screen
without hurting much else, but that's a fairly unlucky thing to have happen. 
Of course, if the laptop is carried badly, then all bets are off.
