QEMU question

I have attempted to use qemu but cannot seem to figure out the cryptic 
manual/documentation.  Anyone out there point me to some really_n00b stuff on 
qemu??  I went to the QEMU Forum but it seems to be defunct... no new posts 
or anything concerning 'just getting it off the ground'.
