I know your problem has been solved by the others, but here is a way to 
remove any startup item you don't need.

sudo update-rc.d -f ntpdate remove

Voila.  To see what is available: "ls /etc/init.d"

update-rc.d can be used to insert boot items too.  "man update-rc.d" for all 
the details.
