Hmmm. I doubt if there is any 'software' as such that would do that. All
Math software essentially do the same thing, but they perform the
calculation and only display the result. 

In your case, I would really suggest you pick up some good book on the
topic and read about it, rather than hoping for a computer to work your
way through. However, once you are familiar with the topic, softwares
could become indespensible tools for computing.

There are quite a few Math software available. As mentioned above,
Octave is a good one. Also, instead of maxima, I would suggest you
install wxMaxima, which is a front end for Maxima and makes your life
much easier.
